The use of enterprise 2.0 in organizations is increasing rapidly, and it’s become essential to business success. Wiki is one of the most popular enterprise 2.0 tools. Why using Wiki? Organizations are using Wiki because it’s easy to implement and its lead to improve communication, increase collaboration and knowledge sharing. This post will examine one of the effective wiki strategies and some tactics for implementing this strategy in the 34th International Geological Congress (34th IGC).
My wiki strategies for the 34th IGC which can be effectively used to meet the benefits of using wiki are increased efficiency in project management, manage project documentation and knowledge sharing. The benefits of implementing these strategies are building knowledge repositories, documenting business processes and brainstorming ideas.
On the other hand, risks of using wiki in an organization could be: Firstly, collective editing where everyone can edit in others text which occur some problems such as vandalism of content. Secondly, content management challenges where organization need to watch duplication of effort, inconsistent content and neglect to manage their wiki. However, the following tactics for implementing these strategies will help the 34th IGC to avoid the risks and meet the benefits of implementing wiki:
The 34th IGC should provide a clear Polices and Guidelines for their stakeholders and delegates. So they need to have a clear rules and responsibilities and start with structured wiki because this more than anything else will determine if the wiki is a success or not. In addition, they should not allow the users to do outsource to professional information but they should capture their information because it’s there competitive advantage. They also need to provide access levels where some wikis are public and open while others are only for read and it can be only edited by a specific group.
Provide proper training for the stakeholders and delegates, if they don’t understand the broad concept of wiki or the specifics of making effective pages. The 34th IGC should be sure to train users on what a wiki is and on how to collaborate with others to create useful information.
Advertise the Wiki which is an important step to create awareness to attract more stakeholders and delegates to contribute on it. This could be by promoting and advertising wiki in the 34th IGC website and other social media sites such as Twitter.
By applying this strategy the 34th IGC will improve their project management and manage project documentation which will increase both collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Good post, well covered wiki strategy. I put up an early adoption strategy (and some other assignment tips) on our class Facebook page – have a look – I hope it’s of some use.

Hey Michael, thanks for visiting and committing in my post. The like you provided is very useful, thanks.
Great Strategy! I think the idea of proper training for stakeholders and delegates is a good one, as well as implementing clear policies and guidelines to help all the users of the wiki understand the responsibilities and content to be posted on the wiki. I also like the idea of using Twitter to advertise the wiki, as twitter has a very large userbase!
Thanks for coming over my post
